Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.”

In this parable, clearly the King is God, His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Wedding Garment  symbolizes the inner transformation required for entering God’s kingdom: the living of the ten commandments, the eight beatitudes and above all, love – expressed in living for, serving, others.

In God’s kingdom, the language of life has the virtues that Jesus Christ lived:  faith, hope, and love. His faith was revealed in His commitment to God and  unwavering trust in God's promises. Hope was shown in His anticipation of resurrection, and love was evident in His life lived for others. As you read the gospels you soon realise that Jesus lived Compassion, Kindness, Humility, Patience and Forgiveness.

At our baptism, we are invited to live our life ever more like Christ’s. It’s good to realise what that means. It takes time.

We have to pass through our teens – with all its temptations - and gradually mature. As Winston Churchill said to his children, “Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you.”

Most people end up marrying and thanks to their partner and perhaps family, live in a spiritual gymnasium in which they can learn to live to love.

I, as a celibate have as my partner the congregations I serve. Sunday mornings you are my partner – that’s why I do my best to help my homily help you – by keeping it short.
