still working to help God make this World a better place

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

“you are Christ, Son the  living God.”

"Christ" is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word "Mashiach," meaning "anointed one" or "Messiah,"   a title rather than a personal name.

You may have noticed that when Saying “Jesus Christ”, I pause between the two words. I do that to help people avoid the mistake that all too many children have made: that Christ was a surname of  the family of Jesus: Jesus Christ, Mary Christ and Joseph Christ. (Ignorance is often unseen!)

Thanks to Jesus, God incarnate, we have been able to discover the personality of God.

In the Original Testament God appeared as Holy and thus distant, set apart, sovereign: governing creation and human history, somewhat like a Monarch before whom we should kneel.

In the New Testament, we see Jesus - we know God - as a friend.(Jn 15,15).

In my relationship, in my prayer, Jesus is Yesh – with whom I share all my feelings and thoughts; with whom I as it were walk hand in hand throughout each day and night.

How is your spirituality? Your prayer life? Worth taking a close look this week. How much time do you commit to spending time with God? Walking along a street, sitting on a tube – or quiet in your home?

Often, when accompanying people on their death-bed, their one regret is “I wish I had spent more time with those I love.”
